Updates

I earlier stated that the letters of which we had copies, were in the Jerrais language. That was incorrect; they are in French. It is my understanding that the Jerrais language was not so much a written language but rather a spoken language not often written. I remember the old Jersey men at the beach in Paspébiac thus speaking among themselves. French is still the official language of Jersey and when I was there in 2008, the laws of the Island were still written in French, so I was informed. We have original copies of some 20 letters which Phillip received and which we hope to get translated into English. They have been typed into readable French.. If anyone can help with this task svp. let me know..

Update #2
My information earlier, was that Phillip Jr. was in Prison camp in France for some ten years. Recently however, I have been corrected by Valerie Lambright, a descendant of our original Canadian ancestors, that after the battle of Waterloo the British prisoners were released . That means that Phillip after 1815 was somewhere else. Did he spend time in Jersey ? or did he return to Gaspé earlier than 1818 ? Mrs. Lambright has been in contact with someone in Paris who is familiar with the History of Longway Prison, where Phillip was held. That was in North East if France near the Danish border.
